It’s not for nothing that during our training in Morocco we met so many women: Moroccan women are great workers! Traditionally, they have always looked after children and taken care of household tasks. In the past few years, many of them have also started working outside the house… and they are very proud of it.
Many find jobs at the women’s cooperatives that are popping up all over the country. There are many advantages to this. Thanks to their salary, they can contribute to the family budget and also help to finance better education for their children. Moreover, many cooperatives encourage their members to learn to read and write. Which is a huge victory for Morocco where 64% of the rural women are illiterate.
Therefore, more and more women in Morocco are successfully creating new initiatives. Some of these women have even become true stars.
Such is the case of Chafaï Choumicha who launched the culinary magazine “Saveurs et cuisine du Maroc” (Flavours and cuisine of Morocco) and hosts culinary programmes. In addition to having promoted traditional Moroccan dishes, these programmes and publications have publicized the specialties of the country abroad. She is incredibly popular and many Moroccan women will certainly follow her example!
Make sure you don’t miss an opportunity to go on to the site ” Saveurs et cuisine du Maroc“, where you’ll find all the details on Moroccan cuisine, its traditions and its current affairs!
