Carminative Foods to Help Get Rid of Intestinal Gas

June 18, 2021 , ,

Abdominal meteorism, an increase in the volume of the abdomen due to the accumulation of intestinal gas, is one of the most common symptoms of troubled digestive function and can affect almost one in every two people. The causes can be numerous, sometimes it can be a symptom of a more or less serious disease, but fortunately, in the majority of cases, the inciting factors of the phenomenon can be controlled. For example, you can reduce your consumption of soft drinks and chewing gum, or be careful not to swallow excess air at mealtime, or reduce the speed of which you ingest food, taking care to chew it well, etc.

A simple method one can implement to reduce gas is to add carminative foods to your meals.

A carminative is a food that promotes the expulsion of intestinal gas, while at the same time reducing its creation. This word comes from the Latin “carminare” which means “to card the wool”, in the sense of “purifying and cleaning by elimination”.

You can find herbal teas made from these carminative foods in health food stores, but they can also be easily incorporated into your daily diet. Moreover, in all traditional cuisines we frequently associate spices and carminative herbs with legumes, which, as we know, are not easy to digest.

Among the main carminative foods, we can find cumin, fennel, cardamom, coriander, star anise, ginger, and peppermint. But almost all of the aromatic herbs have positive effects. Do not hesitate to sprinkle your meals with parsley, sage, oregano, thyme, rosemary, tarragon, basil, dill, caraway, cinnamon, and mustard. And in addition to helping your intestines, these herbs will pleasantly flavour your dishes.

Hello Rosi, I do not know the precise amount of caraway seeds. Start with 1/2 teaspoon.
