World Menopause Day

October 18, 2013

Did you know? Today is World Menopause Day!

World Menopause Day actually began in 1984, and was instituted by the World Health Organization and the International Menopause Society, to raise awareness, encourage education, and draw attention to the research and health information available on the subject of menopause.

During this period of life, the woman’s body stops producing estrogen, which leads to symptoms such as hot flashes, fatigue, insomnia and vaginal dryness. The loss of estrogen has also been associated with a number of serious diseases such as, among others, osteoporosis and heart disease.

In addition to the treatment options that should be discussed with their doctor, women can make changes to their lifestyle to alleviate some symptoms.

Countless studies have shown that regular exercise can benefit women by alleviating anxiety and depression, strengthening bone mass, reducing the risk of osteoporosis and heart disease, thus improving the overall quality of one’s life. This is also a good time to quit smoking and control alcohol consumption.

As far as food is concerned, eating a healthy diet, rich in fruits and vegetables, is of paramount importance. At SOSCuisine, we can help you with our Smart Meal Plan for Menopause.

Happy World Menopause Day, ladies!
